Bobby Turner is Chairman, CEO and Co-Founding Partner of Canyon Capital Realty Advisors LLC (“CCRA”) and a Partner of Canyon Partners, LLC (“Canyon”). Mr. Turner oversees all of CCRA’s real estate debt and equity investments utilizing an opportunistic philosophy of investing across all real estate asset classes and sectors of the capital stack, dynamically shifting asset allocation to generate alpha as market conditions change.

With a focus on markets and transactions that are often overlooked, misperceived or difficult to underwrite, Mr. Turner has been a pioneer over the past decade in the area of “triple bottom line” investing – an investment philosophy of providing sound financial returns for investors, fostering opportunities for residents of the communities in which it invests, and embracing environmental responsibility. These funds include the Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds, a series of closed-end real estate funds and joint venture with Earvin “Magic” Johnson, focusing on inner-city and urban real estate development, and the Canyon-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund, a joint venture with Andre Agassi focusing on the development of learning-friendly, environmentally responsible charter school facilities for best-in-class charter school operators.

Mr. Turner serves on the Advisory Board of the Virginia Avenue Project, a Los Angeles based not-for-profit organization providing after school services for inner-city and at-risk youths, and on the Board of Directors of the Pacific Charter School Development Corporation, a Los Angeles based not-for-profit organization focused on providing underserved California students with high-quality charter school facilities. Mr. Turner also serves on the board of the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC), a national not-for-profit organization founded in 1994 to promote a market-based approach and cutting-edge solutions for inner-city revitalization. Mr. Turner is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA), and the Urban Land Institute (ULI). He is a graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania (B.S., Finance) where he and his wife have endowed a curriculum development fund and speaker series for social impact studies, and where he serves on the University’s Undergraduate Executive Board of Advisors.

Jonathan P. Roth is a Principal at Canyon Capital Realty Advisors LLC (CCRA).  Since joining Canyon more than sixteen years ago, he has been instrumental in the growth and development of CCRA’s professional team and the firm’s diverse portfolio.  During his tenure at CCRA, he has financed and structured complex commercial, land, retail, hospitality and multi-family real estate transactions in markets throughout the United States, including California, Hawaii, New York, Nevada, Florida, Washington D.C. and Colorado. In nearly all of these transactions, Mr. Roth assisted real estate owners and developers who had been unable to secure conventional financing to access capital that, prior to Canyon’s involvement, had been out of reach.

Prior to joining CCRA, Mr. Roth was a partner in the real estate division of the international law firm of Loeb & Loeb. While at the firm, Mr. Roth specialized in all aspects of real estate transactional work with an emphasis on the structuring, documentation and negotiation of complex finance, disposition and acquisition transactions.

He is also involved in several civic ventures, including serving on the Board of Governors of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Phase One, an organization dedicated to raising capital for the funding of phase one trials of medicines and procedures seeking to cure cancer.  Mr. Roth is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles (B.A., English Literature) and Loyola Law School (J.D., honors).

Daniel I. Millman is a Principal at Canyon Capital Realty Advisors LLC.  In his capacity as head of asset management, Mr. Millman oversees the debt and equity investments in the Value Mortgage Funds’ and the Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds’ portfolios. Mr. Millman is actively involved in all elements of each investment including design, financing, construction, leasing, sales & marketing, property operations, and dispositions. Additionally, Mr. Millman takes an active role in communicating with Canyon investors and its Board of Advisors.

Prior to joining Canyon Capital, Mr. Millman was most recently Vice President of Leasing & Asset Management for Center Trust, Inc., a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT). In this capacity he was responsible for overall income and value enhancement of retail real estate assets within the company’s portfolio. During his tenure at Center Trust, Mr. Millman led various redevelopment teams in areas which included design & architecture, entitlement, construction, legal, leasing and operations. Additionally, Mr. Millman created business plans for Center Trust’s portfolio of redevelopment and stabilized assets. Prior to joining Center Trust, he held various management positions with CenterMark Properties (formerly May Centers), a national shopping mall developer based in St. Louis, MO.   Mr. Millman is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers, which has designated him a Certified Shopping Center Manager (CSM), Pension Real Estate Association (PREA), and the Urban Land Institute (ULI). He holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Maryland.

CEO, Canyon-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund

Glenn Pierce is the CEO of the Canyon-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund. Prior to Canyon-Agassi, Glenn served as the President and CEO of Pacific Charter School Development, which he co-founded with NewSchools Venture Fund in 2003. He brings almost thirty years of experience in corporate finance, food service and K-12 education management. He has been a leader in the development of charter schools since 1997. During that time, he has developed over seventy charter schools in ten states and the District of Columbia. Projects ranged from new construction to retrofits of former big box retailers and supermarkets to the refurbishment of former parochial and private schools. These projects created over 18,000 incremental student seats.

He was Chief Financial Officer for Advantage Schools and Chief Financial Officer and Chief Development Officer for Charter Schools USA. Previously, Glenn was Chief Performance Evaluation Officer & Chief Development Officer with Colonial Bagel, a regional franchisee of Einstein Noah’s Bagel, Inc., and a Senior Director of Asset Development with the Pizza Hut division of PepsiCo (now Yum Brands). This followed roughly nine years in commercial lending with Citibank and regional banks that are now a part of PNC Corp and Wells Fargo. Glenn holds a bachelors degree in Economics and Business from Lafayette College and a masters in business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Citicorp’s Institute for Global Finance and the Broad Center for Urban Superintendents. Glenn serves as chairman of the South Florida Autism Charter Schools and on the Facilities Committee of Andre Agassi Preparatory Charter Academy.

Bari Cooper Sherman is the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Canyon Capital Realty Advisors LLC. Prior to joining Canyon, Ms. Sherman was a partner in the real estate law firm of Appel Law Partners, LLP. While at ALP, Ms. Sherman’s practice focused on a broad range of real estate transactions including, acquisitions, dispositions, financing and leasing of retail, office, mixed-use, industrial and residential projects. Ms. Sherman also served as Vice President of Operations and Associate General Counsel for a large privately held import company, and prior to that, practiced real estate and general business law as a partner with Ervin, Cohen & Jessup, LLP in Beverly Hills. Ms. Sherman is a graduate of The George Washington University (B.B.A., Finance), The National Law Center at The George Washington University (J.D.) and also studied abroad at The American College in Paris.
